The Internet Vs. World Wide Web...
What exactly is the Internet? The Internet is a vast world-wide network that connects every single computer around the world. Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf are the two men to thank for this. The first ever workable prototype of the Internet was founded in the late 1960s. It was called ARPANET, short for Advanced Research Projects agency Network. The Internet was originally invented for the military, "During the Cold War, it was essential to have communications links between military and university computers that would not be disrupted by bombs or enemy spies." The Internet is used today to manage finances, communicate with others, shop for clothes, and more. The Internet has a great effect on the world we live in today.

The World Wide Web, or the Web, is a system of compiled documents and web sources that can be accessible through links and hyperlinks, and through the Internet. The founders of the WWW is Tim Berners-Lee & Robert Cailliau in 1989. "The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world. On 30 April 1993, CERN put the World Wide Web software in the public domain." The World Wide Web has made it easier to get information from one person to another in seconds.

The Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same, but are very similar. Matter of fact, the two work with each other so each can function properly. The Web is when you are online. The Internet is the network of connected computers that the web works on. You can think of the Internet as the roads in a city. "Another way to look at this difference is; the Internet is infrastructure while the Web is service on top of that infrastructure."

The first website was created on August 6th, 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee. The website is in fact still up at the moment. You can access the website through here.
